  From humble beginnings, the story of Nutter’s Bulk cranstons1& Natural Foods began in 1982 when, a Medicine Hat doctor and entrepreneur, Dr. Jim Cranston and a local partner saw a need for a new concept in food shopping.   That vision resulted in many franchise inquiries and by 1984, Nutter’s opened 11 outlets in Alberta and Saskatchewan with 26 locations across Western Canada today.   As times changed, Nutter’s led the way; shifting from a traditional bulk food store to the health oriented natural food stores you shop today.   We are proud of our history and continue to honour one of Dr. Cranston’s favourite sayings, “There is not a Nutter place like it.”   After 30 years, Nutter’s has evolved into a truly unique food retailer combining a commitment to the pursuit of a healthy, balanced lifestyle with exciting in-store features.

Nutter’s Bulk & Natural Foods stores have evolved over the last three decades and with each stage of evolution came new and exciting store layouts and merchandising plans.   Our current growth strategy calls for a store model of approximately 2,500 square feet and is designed for markets of 10,000 people or more.   storepictures

Royalties & Marketing Fund

Royalties & Marketing Fund

  Ongoing royalties starting at 3% of gross sales and graduating up to 5% of gross sales over the first 10 years.   Royalties are paid to Head Office on a monthly basis.   The Marketing/Advertising fund is also paid on a monthly basis. The Marketing Fund is based on gross sales and is a flat monthly fee, which varies depending on overall annual store volume.

Training

  Nutter's offers a comprehensive training program. Upon being awarded a Nutter's franchise, franchisees will complete the following training:  
  • Pre-training Orientation
  • Classroom Training
  • In-Store Training
  • New Store On-Site Setup
  • Follow Up On-Site Training
  • Coordinated webinars, workshops and tradeshows to provide ongoing staff product knowledge and enhanced customer service.
  Training will vary depending on previous work experience and background in the natural foods industry.

Field Consulting

  • On-site store visits to review store operations and provide marketing & merchandising recommendations
  • Toll free and/or internet access to all Head Office departments for consultation on all aspects of day to day operations

1. I’m interested in becoming a Nutter’s Franchisee, what is the next step? The first step to becoming a Franchisee is to complete our "Confidential Qualification Report". Simply download the form at the bottom of this page, complete the form and email or fax it to our Head Office. In order to be considered you must complete the Confidential Qualification Report and sign the form.   2. What do you look for in Franchisees? Finances:
      The first criteria is if the Franchisee candidate has the financial ability to purchase a Nutter’s location. The CQR asks very specific questions regarding your financial situation and will determine if this opportunity is within your means.
Enthusiasm and Commitment:
      We are looking for individuals that are excited about the Nutter’s concept, excited about natural/health products and will truly enjoy working with people in a busy retail setting. We are seeking individuals that are health conscious and believe in a healthy, balanced lifestyle and are not afraid of hard work and long hours to build the business.
Computer Skills:
      Point of Sale systems, inventory control & ordering are acquired skills through specific orientation and training. Having a working comfort level on a computer with email, web browsing and social networks is a definite asset
